I have my notes here on the origin of some vulgar words, including the etymology of douchebag, and the origin of the word "fudgepacker", interesting stuff.
For example, George Washington loved profanity and used the “F” word! George was also a major bad-ass killer, executing one of his own assistants on suspicion of treason!
Etymology of the multiple meanings of "pussy"
According to experts on slang etymology, the term “pussy” derives from the Low German "puse" (pronounced like "puss ee"), meaning "vulva".
The vulgar usage of the word "pussy" to refer to a womans privates was likely started by the Germanic wave of immigrants to Wisconsin in the early 1800's.
The reference of female genitals as “pussy” first appeared in English literature in the 1800’s, and the word "pussy" is still used for it's shock value, primarily by adolescents:

The rare Triple Entendre
Today the word "pussy" enjoys status as a word for the elusive triple entendre, where pussy means cat, crotch or coward, depending on the context in which it is used:

It's interesting that the term "pussy" also refers to being cowardly, perhaps because it refers to a man being feminine:

Twat are the synonyms for "Pussy"?
There are also synonyms for pussy, including snatch, muff and beaver. Remember the old TV show "Leave it to Beaver?" You could not use that name for a TV show today!

Ward, weren't you a little hard on the Beaver last night?
Vaudeville "pussy" jokes
Below we see a late 1800’s example from an early Vaudeville act that played on the word “pussy”!
The sexy lady dancers would start hoisting up their skirts provocatively, taunting the audience by shouting “Want to see my pussy?”
After they worked the guys into a lather, they would hike-up their dresses to reveal their pussy's, cute little kittens residing in the pockets of their bloomers!
