The worst disaster in US military history

The worst disaster in US military history

Many people mis-quote Franklin Roosevelt for saying that December 7th was a “Day that will live in infamy”. In reality, he said that December 7th was a “Date that will live in infamy”.

That’s an important distinction because the attacks of December 7th and December 8th, 1941 fell on the same physical day!

I’m reading the book “December 8th 1941, MacArthur’s Pearl Harbor”, and author William Bartsch has done a magnificent job documenting the events leading up to the other side of the “Date that Will Live in Infamy”, the savage Japanese attack in the Philippines that crippled the Army Air Corp. in the Pacific.

A must-read book

The Philippines attack was the worst disaster in US military history largely because of the corrupt cowardice and ineptitude of "Dugut Doug" MacArthur, America's worst General.

Americas worst military disaster was facilitated by Big Mac

If you even wonder why America spends more on defense than any other country, just remember that nearly 100,000 Americans were “stranded” in the Far East, without any reinforcement of equipment coming.

Shoddy American leadership allowed Japanese soldiers to murder Allied soldiers with impunity

I hope to God that all military officers are required to read this important book . . .
